You don't have to use WorldEdit. In fact, right here on MCGamer they have map downloads with the glass dome already there. Go to this link: http://www.minecraftsurvivalgames.com/threads/world-downloads-to-help-you-get-started.91718/. You can then drag this file which will be in your "Downloads" file to your "saves" files. To find the saves file search in your computer .minecraft.

You don't have to really "Download" anything. Just load a singleplayer world and start from there!

You've got to master WorldEdit and VoxelSniper to make a map. If you're thinking of building the map by yourself, try setting up a bukkit server (youtube tutorials everywhere) and adding those 2 plugins... mess around with them until you feel comfortable using them, then get buuuiiildinnng! ^^
