My first game was on map 2, and I ran into that colorfully trimmed building near the cornucopia, found no chests, and got cornered by zombies and blown up by a creeper. First win was on Map 1. I spent forever analyzing winning playing styles and pieced the best parts together. I put it into a science, added a dash of luck, and proved that planning out an entire game works wonders.
I don't remember which map I played first, but I do remember watching everyone take off and then getting pounded on by some guy in iron armor a minute or two later. Played a few more, found some tier 1 chests, still got hosed. Teamed with a few friends, we all did terribly. Took a month long break, came back because I was bored. Looked up chest routes and explored with a map viewer - won my first match 5 games in. Goes to show how much it pays to know where you're going at all times.
My first game on MCSG was way back in april. Only had Map 1 then, and I knew all the chests due to other cruddy servers. I got iron stuff and won, but there were so many glitches :/
My first game was in beta. I ended up running around hopeless on map 1(The only map back then) until I found my way back too corn for the refill with half a heart no re-gen the guy at corn ended up chasing me and fell in lava though I didn't win due too the result of a guy killing me as I watched the other dude die.
it was map 1 i was just running and finding chests i found 2 iron and sticks so i crafted i did survive till dm i came 2nd not too bad eh... but it was so much lag cuz of the sand falling arena...
Before my first game I learned about survival games by watching the yogcast do it. I then explored whole games as a spec, and looked up other peoples routes huntil I knew where to go.
